On the afternoon of April 28, the Hunan Association for Science and Technology (ASTS) Top 10 Decision-Consulting Research Seminar and the Launch Meeting of Central South University (CSU) Zhang Xiaoqian Program for Clinical Research were successfully held in Changsha, co-hosted by the Hunan Medical Association and the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. Supported by the consulting project Application of the Bio‑Psycho‑Social Medical Model in Cancer Prevention and Treatment, Professor Fang Wu led the application for the first CSU Zhang Xiaoqian Program focusing on Emotion and Cancer and was awarded Class A funding. The project will conduct the clinical trial Behavioral and Pharmacological Intervention Combined with Immunotherapy (BRIO Study, NCT05979818) to explore optimized strategies for improving the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy.
The opening remarks were delivered by Professor Chunhong Hu, Professor Xiaoping Wang, and Professor Fang Wu. Professor Yue Sheng, Director of the Research Department of the Second Xiangya Hospital, introduced the Zhang Xiaoqian Program. The meeting brought together multidisciplinary experts from the Cancer Center, Department of Psychiatry, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiovascular Medicine, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Pharmacy, Geriatrics, and Pathology. Multi‑center team representatives were from the Second Xiangya Hospital, Xiangya Hospital, Third Xiangya Hospital of CSU, Hunan Cancer Hospital, Hunan Provincial People’s Hospital, and Changsha Hospital Affiliated to Xiangya School of Medicine of CSU. In‑depth discussions were held on research design, implementation, and collaboration, laying a solid foundation for project implementation.
The Zhang Xiaoqian Program is a key initiative of CSU to advance high‑quality clinical research. Over the next five years, it plans to fund approximately 100 clinical research projects to generate internationally influential outcomes and cultivate top clinical researchers. As the principal investigator, Professor Fang Wu has initiated multiple national multi‑center clinical studies. The launch of this multidisciplinary and multi‑center project represents further innovation in integrating cancer neuroscience and clinical research at the Cancer Center. Going forward, the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University will uphold a patient‑centered philosophy, promote high‑quality clinical research, improve cancer diagnosis and treatment, and strengthen international academic influence.
